it wasn’t much like the images that “meet the fockers” brings to mind, but mike and i finally got our parents together to meet each other for the first time! we took them to dinner at banana leaf in milpitas. the food left much to be desired, but the company was good and the conversation was lively.
mr. and mrs. tanaka are sooo different from my parents that i wondered what they would talk about at dinner =P not surprisingly, a lot of the conversation was centered around our upcoming wedding and travel plans for hawaii. my parents will explore the area, work on their suntans, and cook meals together in the house that they rented. mrs. tanaka will spend time with family who she doesn’t see often, and mr. tanaka plans to golf — a lot.
as different as they are, our parents have one very important thing in common — they love and support mike and me. they give their opinions and advice without being overbearing or demanding. and they offer guidance, but ultimately allow us to live our own lives and have the wedding that we want. yay parents! i have heard so many awful stories about OMOBs (overbearing mothers-of-the-bride) and CFILs (crazy future in-laws) who make wedding planning a nightmarish experience. i am so grateful that we haven’t run across those mythical monsters =)
