the way you look tonight was the song that my dad had chosen for our father/daughter dance. and when i went to pick him up for dance class last week, he brought the song along for us to listen to in the car. he popped in the CD, and i expected to hear the frank sinatra classic. but ohhhh nooo. the sound that filled the car was none other than the smoky styling of michael buble. yes folks, my dad is a fan of michael buble. i’d also like to mention that he listens to pink (the artist, not the color), he has downloaded every single aaliyah song from napster (when it was still free), and he voted for melinda doolittle in this past season’s american idol. my dad is way cooler than i am. but i digress.
as you may have heard, dad and i are taking a crash course in basic ballroom dancing. in four sessions, we have learned to cha-cha, waltz, two-step, and swing. there are six more classes, and i think we’re going to learn six more dance steps! but from what i can tell, there are really only two basic moves in all of ballroom dancing. you just change the timing of those moves, and it’s suddenly a different dance. and if you start getting bored with the same ol’ moves, add a spin, step to the side, change positions, or triple step. easy.
but due to my dad’s hip problem and general lack of coordination (just kidding, dad!) he has trouble with some of the funkier dance steps, but really enjoys the waltz. unfortunately, the way you look tonight isn’t a waltzable song. can anyone suggest an appropriate father/daughter song that we can waltz to?
